I first went to Thailand in the 1996 ... Hin Kong was being turned over to the Chinese, after a
100 Year lease by the British. I thought it might radically change, and ever since I'd seen
The WOrld of Suzy Wong with Nancy Kwan and William Holden as a young boy, I yearned to go
to Hong Kong and the Far East of Asia. The movie Summertime with Katherine Hephurn had the same affect on me to go to Venice one day. So I bought my Plane Ticket and I was on my way to
I flew from JFK Airport in New York to LA on American Airlines and then transferred to
a Cathay Pacific 747 Jumbo Jet to fly from Los Angeles to Kong Kong. I stayed in Hing Kong for 3 days. I did not stay at the Peninsula Hotel, in fact my hotel was as far from the Peninsula as you could get. It wasn't very good at all, but this was in 19996 when there was no internet and, no Booking.com or anything like that. Most of the hotels I could find were quite expensive, and not affordable to me, and the cheap ones were as stark and unappealing as can be. Regardless, I had a great time, before boarding another Cathay Pacific Plane to take me to Bangkok Thailand where I would find much better accommodation at far cheaper prices. Th same story with the food, which was amazingly delicious and insanely cheap. I loved it. at the Sathorn Inn Hotel and not at my Bangkok Dream Hotel, The Oriental Hotel, Bangkok which is considered the Worlds # 1 Best Hotel in all the World. I couldn't stay there, but I had lunch at The Oriental one day, Afternoon Tea another day, and cocktails at one of the Cocktail Lounges one night.
I had a wonderful time in Bangkok, eating a lot of wonderful Thai Food and exploring this enchanting city. After a few days, I hopped on a Thai Airways 747 bound for Phuket where I stayed for 3 days before moving on to Phi Phi Island and then on to Krabi and Railay Beach Thailand.
